Top Ten Books of 2014

I’m a day late, but I still wanted to do a post on my favorite books of 2014. I reached my goal of reading 100 books in 2014 (barely) and I read some seriously good one! In no particular order, here are my favorites. 🙂17993765

The Unhappening of Genesis Lee by Shallee McArthur. This book was a totally unexpected thrill ride. Initially this book wasn’t on my radar, but I was given a copy as a gift and the back cover copy intrigued me. I started reading and was immediately sucked in!

Relax, I’m a Ninja by Natalie Whipple. Okay, the title alone made me want to read this book. It was hilarious and fun and I’ll definitely be reading the sequel this year.

Woven by David Powers King and Michael Jensen. In the interest of full disclosure, David’s in my critique group and a good friend. But this book is still freakin’ awesome. It’s romantic, it’s fantastical, it’s funny. It’s coming to a bookstore near you this month. Go buy it ASAP.

Transparent by Natalie Whipple. Yes, I know it’s the second Natalie Whipple book on this list. I went to a few conferences in 2014 where Natalie was a presenter, and knew I had to pick up her books and start reading. Now I’m a18947183 lifelong fan.

Chances Are by Traci Hunter Abramson. This is so not the type of book she usually writes, so I wasn’t sure if I’d like it. And I didn’t like it–I loved it.

The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. Okay, I know this is kind of the book of 2014 or whatever. It was hyped up so much that I fully expected to be disappointed when I read it. But I wasn’t. Not only is the story emotional and the voice hilarious, the story was beautiful even on a sentence level. It’s the kind of book I want to own in hardback, kindle, and audio.

Elevated by Elana Johnson. I didn’t know if I’d like a novel in verse, but I totally did. It made me fall in love with reading and words all over again.

How to Date a Nerd and How to Seduce a Band Geek by Cassie Mae. Okay, so I’m kind of cheating here but these books are in the same series so it’s legit. These books were hilarious and quick reads. Cassie Mae is quickly becoming my go-to author for when I’m stressed and just need to forget about life for a few hours. I’m ridiculously excited for the conclusion to this series.

13188676Ignite Me by Tahereh Mafi. I loved this series and was really hoping I wouldn’t be disappointed by the conclusion to the trilogy. I wasn’t. I am such a fan of this author’s writing. It is so different from most of what I read, and it’s so beautiful.

Mind Games by Kiersten White. I just wanted to give the main character a hug. Loved the characterization and the voice in this book.

So there you go. What were your favorite books of 2014? There were so many other great ones I read and enjoyed last year. Right now, I’ve got a loaded kindle and 365 days of reading ahead of me. I can’t wait to see what books become my favorite this year.
